Family Compass is now offering teletherapy services to address the emotional, behavioral and developmental needs of children, adolescents and their families.

In addition, our team of highly experienced professionals can help families combat the compounding effects of social isolation, loss of routine, and family stress caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Teletherapy enables safe social distancing and consists of live, secure online videoconference sessions. Services include parental guidance sessions as well as direct therapy work with children and adolescents.

Parental Guidance Sessions:

  • To Address Emotional, Behavioral and Attentional Challenges:

Our therapists work with parents to support emotional regulation, customizing their approach to the child’s and family’s unique needs, and develop behavioral supports.  The goal is to increase emotional and behavioral regulation, alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, and promote “family calm”.

  • To Address Challenges Related to Autism and Other Neurodiverse Characteristics:

Our therapists guide parents to support emotional regulation, engagement and communication skills, as well as develop behavioral interventions that promote positive development and “family calm”.

Direct Teletherapy with Children and Adolescents:

Tweens and adolescents typically benefit from their own teletherapy sessions without significant parental participation. For younger children, some parental participation in the session is helpful to achieve optimal outcomes.

  • Teenagers and Tweens: Many teens and tweens find accessing services from their own space utilizing a familiar medium appealing and motivating.  Research indicates that teletherapy for teens is as effective as in-person sessions in helping them navigate these tumultuous and challenging years.
  • Grade School Children: Teletherapy can also be effective with this age group.  In sessions with parents and children, goals are identified and specific coping skills are practiced with the child.  Parents are included so they can practice and strengthen those skills at home with the children between sessions.

Family Teletherapy Sessions:

  • For Families with Grade School-Age and –Older Children: Children thrive in families when they feel seen, safe, soothed, and secure. Sometimes communication patterns and dynamics can become difficult and messages misunderstood.  We offer family therapy to rebuild open, clear communications and safe relationships so that all family members can bring their best selves to the family unit and to the larger world.
